The organisation is supported by the Cleveland Fire Brigade, which identified a gap within public sector. In the Cleveland area there are no provisions for ‘after fire support’ to victims of fire. Through the CFSN diverse range of volunteers, we will provide practical and emotional support to meet the needs of the victim for an unlimited length of time.
The registered office for the Cleveland Fire Support Network is:
1 Bickley Way,
Coulby Newham,
Middlesbrough,
TS8 9NW
Accessible via public transport and by car from the A19 and A1, the site is in the process of being re-developed to accommodate the volunteers and Network, it will provide accessible facilities for wheelchair users, as well as training facilities for volunteers and the wider community.
Eventually it is hoped that each of the fire stations in Cleveland will be accessible to the Network and wider community, promoting confidence and building stronger and safer communities, through partnership working.
Financial support for the Network in its first year has been provided by the Cleveland Fire Authority, but the long term goal of the Network is to be self-sustaining. The CFSN strengths lie in the diversity and ethnicity of our volunteers, our ability to network throughout the district and our strong working links with the Cleveland Fire Brigade.
At present the CFSN is piloting the Middlesbrough area, with just over 30 volunteers having already been recruited, a full CRB enhanced disclosure is sought as well as two references for each potential volunteer. This has provided the Network with the ability to identify areas that may need further assistance as well as securing positive feedback from other like-minded agencies and the wider community.
